I kept trying to talk to the three others (Captain Aldis, Lami and Rustleif) but they wouldn’t give me their quest. It took me a while to get anywhere as I kept missing Torbjorn Shatter-Shield in my miscellaneous quest list. I knew from near the beginning of my game that I had given Ysolda a mammoth tusk so I knew this quest was complete. These appear to be the default responses if you killed Helvard earlier in the game. When originally speaking to Siddgeir and his steward I had just two options available from both and both of these were dead ends. Should be enough to get a half decent start on some of the work and then you can rinse and repeat, gaining a good amount each time. When you go inside and the apprentice isn't around, to the right of the forge is a shelf full of iron and silver ingots (you don't need silver). This might not be an issue if you were already given these quests prior to Hearthfire but now it seems, for me anyway, that it doesn't want you to have them all there in the one sitting. Every time I spoke to another quest giver, they would not active the quest until I completed the active one. The only way to fix it is to complete the Rare Gifts quest but the game doesn’t count this as a main quest, it is regarded as six individual miscellaneous quests and you can only have one in your list at a time.

Like others I had a problem where I could not purchase the plot of land in Falkreath due to completing the Dark Brotherhood quests earlier in the game which resulted in me killing Helvard.
